How to Install Ueno Remotely
Ueno is the local bank in Paraguay and is often the easiest one to open. Follow these steps to complete everything remotely from both iOS and Android.
Step 1: Downloading the Ueno App
The Ueno app is geo-restricted, meaning it's not available in app stores outside of Paraguay. You have to virtually 'be' in Paraguay to download it & use it.
Android Users
The easiest method is to use AuroraOSS. Download and install the open-source app store, AuroraOSS. This makes installation super simple. It allows you to fake that you are in Paraguay directly from the app store, and you don't have to use a VPN every time you open the app; it reliably works.
iOS Users
You may need to either change the country of your App Store to a supported region (Paraguay) or use a VPN connected to a Paraguayan server before downloading the app. Even after download, you may still need to use a VPN to access the app.
Step 2: Obtaining a Paraguayan Phone Number
Ueno's registration requires a local Paraguayan phone number. You have two main options for fulfilling this requirement:
Option 1: Using a Standard Paraguayan SIM Card
You can purchase a standard Paraguayan SIM card from a local provider (Tigo, Claro, Personal, etc.). Note: This option requires you to be physically present in Paraguay to initially purchase and activate the SIM card.
Once you have the SIM card, you must maintain its activity, especially if you plan to leave the country and rely on it for banking verification.
To keep your phone number alive while abroad:
- Always have money topped up on the balance.
- Send an SMS or make a call, preferably every month. Some carriers require this monthly activity to keep the line active, while others may allow every second or third month. Monthly activity ensures your number remains active.
- Disable roaming with data.
Option 2: Using a Third-Party Remote Service
If you are currently abroad, or if you simply do not want to bother with the monthly maintenance steps of a physical SIM, you can use a third-party remote service like ParaguaySMS.com
This ensures your number is always available, even if your physical phone is stolen or forgotten.
Getting a local Paraguayan number helps because it removes one more tie to your home country and avoids questions about using a foreign number while residing in Paraguay. While most countries currently don't care about this, many are moving toward stricter residency definitions.
By the way, if you need a physical Paraguayan address for your account setup and for receiving any official correspondence.
